Mahale Mountains National Park is a national park of Tanzania located on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika in Uvinza District of Kigoma Region. Named after the Mahale Mountains range that is within its borders, the park has several unusual characteristics. Mahale Mountains National Park was originally created to protect the thousands of chimpanzees that inhabit the region. At the western tip of Tanzania, on the shore of Lake Tanganyika, lies a mountainous region boasting chimpanzees and rich biodiversity.
